S E R E N I T Y:
“Serenity, have you checked your Facebook wall lately?” Mackenzie asked as she tapped her touch screen phone furiously. I haven’t been on Facebook in so long so I don’t know what she could possibly be getting at. I didn’t have time to worry about it either because I heard Kylie crying from the back room. I looked at the clock, it’s almost 7..Aunt Lisa should be back to pick those little devils up any time now. I went in the back quickly so she wouldn’t wake up her sister with all of her crying, only to find she was making noise because her pacifier fell on the floor. I quickly rinsed it off and gave it back to her, she snatched it back and turned over, falling back asleep instantly. I walked back to the living room and saw Mackenzie shaking her head at my lap top’s screen.
“What’s going on?” I asked as I sat down beside her. I almost had a heart attack when I saw so many wall posts on my Facebook asking me about Chris Brown. She scrolled down the page more and I saw a picture of Chris and I leaving Red Robin. That lady on the radio must have been talking about me. I don’t understand who would do such a thing. I mean, I know paparazzi are all snakes but there weren’t any around when we were out.
“Oh my God, Macki just deactivate it…deactivate my Facebook, only more people are going to start leaving wall posts…deactivate it, now!”
“Relax girl, I did. Everyone at school pretty much knows now…what are you going to do?” she asked as she closed my lap top.
“I don’t know Macki, I don’t know. I’ll just deny it….I’ll say the girl in the picture isn’t me.”
“Why? I mean, this can actually be a good thing….everyone will want to know who Serenity McFadden is because of this. You could probably end up becoming Prom Queen with this if you play your cards right.”
“Nothing good will come out of this. Maybe a few new friends but they’ll be fake ones, they’ll just stick around to see or hear about Chris. I don’t need to be Prom Queen. There’s no way on Earth the whole school would have voted for me before, I don’t need their votes now.”
“I know but Serenity….if Chris allows it….we can have some serious fun with this. You can rule the school if you want.”
“What do you mean if Chris allows it? What is “it” anyway? We’re just friends.”
“The media is making y’all out to be more than friends and we both know Chris is a private person…he might not want the whole school to know you guys are friends…even though they already know.” Before I could say anything else, the doorbell rung. I figured it was Aunt Lisa coming to pick her little devils up so I raced to the back to get them and told Macki to open the door. I made sure I was careful when picking them up and placing them in their car seats. I didn’t want to wake them up at all. Aunt Lisa would have a hard enough getting them to go back to sleep tonight after they wake up from this nap.
“Aw shit, you got kids?” a voice said as I made my way back into the living room. I looked up and saw Chris in the kitchen, unpacking what looked like dinner he must have picked up somewhere, I know he didn’t make it himself.
“No, I don’t have kids and I’d appreciate it if you lowered your voice and didn’t curse around them,” I said as I took Kendall and Kylie out of their car seats and placed them on the sofa so they could continue their nap.
“Man relax, they sleeping hard over there. Come give me a hug though, I could use one,” he said as he frowned and walked over to me. He then wrapped his arms around me, resting his chin on my forehead.
“Chris, what are you doing here?” I asked as I wiggled out of his hug.
“Remember, I told you I was coming over around 7 to drop your car off and to have dinner ma.”
“I don’t remember any of that. The only thing I do remember is you not texting me back after the radio interview. I know she was talking about me Chris, I’ve seen the pictures. What are we going to do?”
“I had shit going on with Kae, and the interviewer pissed me off. I wasn’t trying to text you in that state of mind before I said something I’d regret. She was talking about you though and we not doing a damn thing. I can do whatever the hell I want, I’m grown….let the media talk. I don’t give a fuck about what the tabloids say anymore, you shouldn’t either.”
“What was going on with Kae?”
“Out of everything I just said, I knew you’d only hear that part. It was nothing though, she wanted to see me, try to talk things over…I wasn’t down. I told her deuces and blocked her number. I’m over her ma, trust me.”
“I mean, none of that even matters because we’re just friends.”
“Stop frontin’ nigga, you know you like me more than just a friend, you don’t have to say it though. Where your parents at though? My mission today is to make them like me, that’s why I bought dinner. Tyga’s cook was being an ass and didn’t want to come out the house so I just picked up a lil something on my way over.”
“Whatever, my parents will be back shortly. Seriously though Chris…people at my school already know…news travels fast in Louisiana…what am I going to tell them?”
“What you mean? Tell em you’re dating Chris Brown and for them to fuck off. It’s that simple, you stress over the dumbest things ma,” he said a little to loudly as he sat down on the couch beside Macki. Kendall and Kylie instantly woke up, crying and screaming to the top of their lungs thanks to Chris. I picked up Kendall while Chris unexpectedly came and picked up Kylie. Kylie immediately stopped crying as Chris kissed her cheek and held her close to his chest. I guess he has that affect on all girls. Kendall and Kylie finally began to fall back asleep so I lay them both back down on the couch.
“I didn’t know you were good with kids,” I told Chris as I looked out the window. I noticed my car back in the drive way as my father’s and Aunt Lisa’s car pulled up next to it.
“It’s a lot you don’t know about me yet. Who’s that though?” Chris asked as he pointed to Aunt Lisa as she walked up the steps.
“My Aunt, Kendall and Kylie’s mom. Just be quiet and don’t say anything, I’ll introduce you when I feel it’s a good time to. Okay?”
“Man, stop stressing. She’ll love me,” he said as he opened the door for my Aunt and parents.
“Serenity, what is Mr. Brown doing here?” My mom asked as she walked through the door, past Chris, and over to me.
“I bought dinner Mrs. McFadden, so we can all sit down and you guys can get to know me better. We got off on the wrong foot earlier, I just want to show you guys I’m not the “thug” you think I am,” Chris said as he held my mother’s hand, then shook my father’s.
“Mr. Brown, what is it that a big, fancy pants, celebrity wants with my daughter? My daughter is to be treated and respected like a Queen. I’ve seen your music videos sir, the women are treated like pieces of meat, not Queens.”
“Mr. McFadden, my music videos are simply for the public, they don’t always portray any aspect of the kind of person I am. Trust me, Serenity has been treated like a Queen so far in our friendship and I plan to continue treating her like one. You have nothing to worry about sir.”
“Dad, Mom….just eat dinner with him, get to know him at least. Aunt Lisa, you’re more than welcome to stay as well, if you want,” I said as I led everyone to the kitchen.
“No, I think I’ll be on my way with my babies. You all have fun, nice meeting you Chris. Thanks again sweetie, I needed a minute away from these two,” My Aunt said as she picked up Kendall and Kylie and headed out the door. I wish she would have stayed. She’s able to make my mom and dad stay open minded about certain things when she’s around. Now that she’s left, I don’t think this dinner is going to go the way Chris wants it to.

C H R I S B R O W N:
I’ve never had this much trouble making a girl’s family like me. Normally, they all love me as soon as they meet me. Serenity’s aunt was the only one that seemed like she didn’t want to strangle me. At least I know one of the twins likes me, that’s probably the only thing keeping me here. Besides Serenity and Mackenzie, I’m eating dinner with two people that have made it well known they don’t like me. It’s all good though, I’m not trying to make them like me for my sake but for Serenity’s. I don’t want them trippin’ whenever I decided to pop up and take her out or something. I don’t want the fact that they don’t know me enough to like me, keep Serenity and I apart.
“Mr. Brown, I’d hate to be the one to bring this up…but I have to. Serenity’s my daughter and I want her to be safe and it’s my job to protect her,” Mr. McFadden said as he put his fork down on his plate. I took a sip of my wine and prepared myself for what was about to come.
“I understand you were in an unfortunate situation a couple of years ago…with that other singer, I’m not quite sure of her name but I do know that I remember seeing you all over my TV screen. I remember seeing and hearing that you brought physical pain and damage to this young woman. I’m quite sure you know what I’m talking about. Mr. Brown, how do I know you won’t do the same to my daughter if things get out of hand one day?” Fuck, I can’t seem to get away from my past today. First the interview, and now Serenity’s dad is questioning me. By the way her mom is shaking her head in agreement, I’m pretty sure she was about to ask the same thing. I just sipped the rest of my wine, poured another glass, then sipped the rest of that before I answered. I needed time to think about this.
“Chris, you don’t have to answer that. Dad, he’s not the same person that he was at that time. He’s been nothing but a perfect gentlemen since the day I’ve met him. I need you and Mom to understand that we’re just friends and I trust him. If I can trust him, you both should be able to do the same. Even if you can’t, I’m 18 and think I’m old enough to make my own decisions about who I’m friends with,” Serenity said as she got up and sat in the empty seat beside me. She just smiled at me, reassuring me that this wasn’t the big ass mistake I was starting to think it was. I’m glad she spoke up for me though. I honestly didn’t have a clue as to what I was going to tell these people.
“Jerry, she’s right. She’s old enough to make these decisions now. Mr. Brown, we just hope you’ll continue to treat our baby with the respect she says you already have. We thank you for dinner, it was lovely and you’re more than welcome to stay as long as you’d like,” Mrs. McFadden said as she came over and hugged me. Mr. McFadden just shook his head in my direction, cleared the plates off of the table, then he and Mrs. McFadden made their way upstairs.
“Okay, I think your mom likes me…not too sure about your Dad,” I told Serenity as I cleared our plates off of the table. She took them away from me and began to wash them
“Just give him some time, he’ll come around. This was a good idea though, thanks,” she said as she dryed off the dishes. I just wrapped my hands around her waist and buried my face in her neck.
“Nah, thank you ma. You were right, I’m not the same person that I was during that situation with Rih, I’m glad you see that. I’ve been working my ass of to make the public and everyone else see it but I’ve realized none of that even matters anymore. As long as the person I’m with knows, it’s all good, right?”
“What do you mean, the person you’re with?”
“Stop the frontin’ shawty, we both know this can be something bigger than what you’re letting it be. Don’t put me in the friend zone, I don’t think I can handle it.”
“Well Chris, what label do you want to give to this thing we have right now, we’re not in a relationship so what would you call this.”
“I know we aren’t in a relationship right now but until we get there, and we will get there….I’ll tell everyone you’re my boo, the media…everybody. Everyone will know. I’ll scream it to the rooftops ma. You can tell your friends when they ask, especially that nigga Delano or some shit like that,” I said as I sat down beside Mackenzie. She was glued to her lap top, probably not paying Serenity and I any attention.
“Aye shawty, what you doing over here that’s so damn interesting?” I asked her as I looked over her shoulder, at the computer.
“Activating Serenity’s Facebook, she deactivated it because of all the questions she was getting, she thought you wouldn’t want anyone to know you guys were friends because she’s such a damn weirdo. I told her you wouldn’t care.” I looked at Serenity and just pulled her into my lap. I like her. I’ve never felt this way about any girl in this such a short amount of time. It’s like I’ve known her my whole life. I plan on making her mine even though I feel like this little insecurity thing she has might be a problem. I’m willing to help her through it. I think that may be why she feels all guys are out to hurt her, because they haven’t taken the time to reassure her that she’s beautiful and worth someone elses time. Fuck those other guys though, I’ll do it. I pulled out my phone and took a picture of us, me kissing her cheek and her smiling. I held my phone out infront of her so she could see I was posting it to Instagram and Twitter.
“Chris, what are you doing? You’re fans will have a fit as soon as they see that. Everyone will know,” she said as she got up from my lap and started pacing the floor back and forth.
“That was the point nigga, calm down. I don’t want whatever we have to be a secret. It’ll only make things worst with the public. I plan on keeping you around for a while, the fans might as well get used to it. Just like they got use to Rih and Kae, they’ll get used to you,” I told her as I wrapped her back in my arms. She didn’t say anything, I can tell she was thinking. That’s her problem, she thinks entirely too much. After everything with Rih, I learned that thinking about the situaiton isn’t always the best solution.
